We all have those days… or weeks, where we can’t get anything done. Where you’re stuck in quicksand, and can’t seem to put any of your ideas into action. It’s okay to feel this way, it’s actually pretty normal. If you’re like me, there are things you rely on to get you off shaky ground and back on course. Inspirational quotes can give you the jump start you need. These words of wisdom work in the same way that a favourite song, book or film may trigger an action or reaction. And, may also spark a fresh and positive outlook.
Inspirational quotes can trigger emotions that are difficult to ignore.
Sometimes you just need something a little more profound than the usual mantras you repeat to yourself. Another positive source to give you that nudge to get moving.
I love inspirational quotes because they put me in a state of calm. They also have a great way of providing clarity and perspective. It’s during this pause where I feel like my energy is rejuvenated. Where I can start an action plan and make small steps towards that plan. If nothing else, inspirational quotes get me thinking about different possibilities and alternatives.
12 Inspirational Quotes
1. Someday is not a day of the week.
~ Denise Brennan-Nelson
This is a procrastinator’s dream. Instead of someday, make an action plan and pick a specific day. You only have to pick ONE day, to start something new.
2. A year from now you may wish you had started today.
~ Karen Lamb
How quickly time flies, that you look back and think if I’d only done this sooner I’d be so much further along. It’s not a great feeling, but don’t beat yourself up about it. We all look back with regrets or wishes that we’d done things a little differently. There’s no time like today to make a fresh start.
3. The tragedy in life doesn’t lie in not reaching your goal. The tragedy lies in having no goal to reach.
~ Benjamin Mays
If you’re not challenging yourself to reach new heights, how will you ever grow? Or how will you know who you’re truly destined to be? Standing in the same spot is exactly where you’ll stay, if you don’t have a plan.
4. Nothing will work unless you do.
~ Maya Angelou
If you work hard at something, opportunities will eventually come from it. Maybe an opportunity you weren’t even thinking of. Just keep putting yourself out there. Someone will take notice.
5. A person who never made a mistake never tried anything new.
~ Albert Einstein
The fear of the unknown can be paralyzing. But, how will you know what you’re capable of if you keep doing the same ‘ol thing? It’s better to fail at something new than keep recycling with the same predictable outcome.
6. If you can’t fly then run, if you can’t run then walk, if you can’t walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward.
~ Martin Luther King Jr.
No time for excuses. A quote from one of my favourite films, The Shawshank Redemption… GET BUSY LIVING OR GET BUSY DYING.
7. Opportunity does not knock, it presents itself when you beat down the door.
~ Kyle Chandler
You have to make things happen for YOU. It may not require a lot, or it may require more than you’ve ever given, but it won’t happen by just sitting there waiting.
8. Everything you’ve ever wanted is on the other side of fear.
~ George Addair
Fear can be very crippling. Fear of failure. Fear that you’re not good enough. Fear that you won’t be supported. If you can, take back the control. If you won’t do it, who will? Do it for yourself and no one else.
9. The only person you are destined to become is the person you decide to be.
~ Ralph Waldo Emerson
You can be anything you want. Dream big, work hard and it will manifest.
10. Success is the sum of small efforts repeated day in and day out.
~ Robert Collier
We sometimes get caught up in the accomplishing large tasks and believing the enormity of that task will bring joy and satisfaction. Instead, focus on the small stuff, especially if you’re in a rut. Do a little more each day. Or a little less. Just keep going.
11. Fall 7 times, stand up 8.
~ Japanese Proverb
Missteps are a part of life. It’s how we learn and grow. Pick yourself up and figure out a better way to get what you want. Remember, don’t repeat the same mistakes expecting different results.
12. People rarely succeed unless they have fun in what they are doing.
~ Dale Carnegie
Maybe you’re stuck and unmotivated for a reason. That reason being, you don’t like where you are or what you’re doing. As mentioned earlier, being stuck is actually an okay thing. It will give you the time to think about what’s really frustrating you. How long can you keep faking excitement for something you know has you feeling empty and passionless? I know, I’ve been there. There’s no time like now to take a break from that thing (if you can) and figure out how to do something else more fulfilling.
What motivates you when you’re in a rut?
